Shorts and Roses

With Memorial day here, it's officially the start of summer and that means shorts. I never used to wear shorts - just did not like the way they looked on me. Because of dance, my thigh muscles were always very defined and I always felt that it looked un-feminine. So, I wore longer skirts to cover up. What was I thinking? I would love to be in that great of shape again, but oh well. Now that I am let's just say, less in shape, I am finally getting over my dislike of shorts. I am really loving the more roomy shapes of shorts that designers are turning out as of late - I suppose this is a late 80's early 90's influence. The cut is really flattering, especially for those of us that may want a bit more 'roominess' around the legs.

The shorts I wore on Sunday are from Mociun. They are quite comfortable (I am beginning to think comfort is the common thread to many of my wardrobe choices) The top is from La Mixx, the jacket is from Levis, and the shoes are vintage.

Now for the roses... We ran a quick errand today which brought us over the Grand Lake neighborhood of Oakland. On the way we stopped by the Rose Garden (since I promised to show you pictures of when the roses were in bloom) and then we took some pictures by some cute little murals spotted along the way.

All in all it was a great long weekend, full of long walks, warm weather, rock band, and vegan frozen hot chocolate. Yep, get ready for the recipe in a future post.

  1. Love it. I want to see more yellow roses...I am hoping to wear shorts someday. Someday. I have a tough time with them too. Not sure why exactly.

  2. the more comfortable I get in my own skin, the more I like shorts. I used to hate them with a passion on myself

  3. I love those patterned shorts - I've been seeing them around and need to buy a pair. I have a few vintage pairs but they are sooooo high-waisted, I'd like to find a modern patterned pair. The blue ones are fabulous too - I like the pleating and the tie!

  4. that garden is to die for! I think I would live there if I could.

I know just how you feel about the shorts, but the wider ones are cute and I'm actually liking them.

Today I saw a girl wearing shorts that reminded me why I ever swore them off in the first place - Up to her butt cheeks short and more lyrca than denim.
