Challenge Outfit #11 Saturday in Oakland

Are you getting sick of this skirt yet? I am glad that the challenge is coming to an end. I can't believe I was able to pull together so many outfits. I think that I have come out with at least 6 that I really like and can see myself wearing often. This is one of them. I was unsure about the brogues with the skirt, but I think they work, and they are comfy for my daily routine. I just added my favorite cardigan to this (it's old from the gap from like 5 or 6 years ago) And, the little top I bought from Le Train Bleu. I realized that I have a lot of cream/white/taupe and ivory in my wardrobe!

I'm going to share a little bit about what I do on my weekends in and around Oakland.
On Saturdays we make our way over to the farmer's market - and we pass by this abandoned building.

I love the large doors on this building, I wish we could have got a few more shots of it, but I get shy taking photos when lots of people are walking about.

I am excited for the warmer days ahead because it means a much much larger selection of foods at the market.

We also swung by Maribel, the little consignment shop where I picked up the MJ skirt. I love this place they really do have a great selection, and it's not picked over by people. Overall, they tend to have a well edited selection of merchandise, and they carry a lot of locally designed jewelery.

Mario and I don't do netflix- we really like to support our local businesses, so we stopped into the video room to pick out a movie for tonight. This place is the best! There really is something special about going into an independently owned video place. I love the employees there and the fact that it's right around the corner doesn't hurt either!

And that's it, the rest of the day we'll spend cleaning since we have family coming to visit.

I hope everyone has had a fantastic Saturday!

  2. I love that shirt and think that ensemble is cute.

I would love to support our local video stores but any time I've rented anything, I've been stuck at work for days during their open hours so I never return anything on time! Plus they're both a 10 minute walk away if not longer. Eventually I just broke down and did Netflix when I canceled my cable.

    I love farmer's markets.

And that consignment shop looks great. They've styled it like every other Bklyn boutique here! Right down to the colors and font.

  3. hehe Oakland is a copycat! I love it because it's pretty inexpensive- it is crazy what some people will get rid of...

  4. Just seeing the window of that shop makes me want to go there!

Our local video store went out of business two years ago, so we netflix it up. Got the disc for the wii to play streaming content this weekend too - but I find I have no time for movies since I started spending 3 hours a night reading blogs....

Oh and sewing... when I was little my grandma taught me how to sew clothes for my dolls by hand. When I was older she got me a sewing machine, but most of what I know, I taught myself. As long as you have LOTS of patience, you can easily learn how to sew.

  5. I felt I should comment, since my sister got my case about this- I am not opposed to the netflix
: ) but after seeing so many shops/restaurants in our 'hood' close - we decided to support all the local businesses as much as possible! When I was in college all I had was netflix and I watched the movies on my computer... speaking of which I should get off the internets and onto the couch to watch our movie!
