Fall Fashion: 1966

Fall fashion week is moving along in NYC, and while I am not part of the throngs of women in uber high heels and dapper men rushing about to see the latest collections for next season ( yes, that's right fashions for spring, and fall coats and boots haven't even been worn yet!) Again, while I am not part of the Fall fashion week hullabaloo, I have been thinking a lot about fashion. It seems that every season 'trends' repeat themselves.

In the Spring and Summer nautical themes and florals abound - and in the Fall, it's always the same riding boots, military accents, plaids & tweeds, menswear. The colors and cuts change - sure- but there are always constants.

Here are some looks from Fall 1966.

Peacoats, oxfords and tuxedo pants are always classics, and I'm always excited to pull out the plaids. I'm not quite ready for fall weather yet, but I feel I have plenty of fall weather staples in my closet to mix and match for the season.

  1. oooh I'm with you all the way. I think I'm going for the sort of mod Marc by Marc Jacobs look for the fall. I feel like my style is evolving and I cant put a name on it!

  3. I love pea coats. I'll probably have one in every possible color and style variant someday.

And yes, the trends may claim to be new, but they are only slightly updated. Not that I mind. I'm generally happy to comply.

I'd also happily don that black and white striped dress.

  4. The 60's are definitely my favorite era fashion-wise, and it is pretty cool how timeless some of those looks are. I've sported wool pea coats every winter since I was about 16, when I bought my very own green pea coat from J.Crew (that was most of my summer job money that year), and I can't imagine pea coats ever not looking great. And I do feel like fall and winter fashions are a lot more constant than spring and summer year after year.

  5. I love pretty much all of these and how smart of you to dig these up in honor of Fashion Week. Seriously. I love it.

  6. That's a really great post :) Don't think much has changed though. Every trend comes back again :)
